Free static codes vs. subscription QR services
Many “free” QR generators create dynamic codes that stop working when a trial ends. Here is how PureTools differs.
| Feature | PureTools | Typical subscription generator |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free, no account | Free trial, then monthly plan |
| Code lifetime | Static, never expires | Often stops working when the plan ends |
| Scan limits | Unlimited | Capped on free tiers |
| Watermark | None | Common on free downloads |
| Vector SVG / PDF export | Included | Usually a paid feature |
| Your data | Processed in your browser | Stored on the vendor server |
| Barcodes & 2D codes | EAN, UPC, Code 128, Data Matrix, PDF417… | QR codes only |

Frequently Asked Questions
Is PureTools really free?
Yes. Every generator on PureTools is free to use with no account, no trial and no watermark. You can create as many QR codes, barcodes and 2D codes as you need and use them for personal or commercial projects. The site is supported by advertising, not by locking features behind a paywall.
Do the QR codes and barcodes expire?
No. PureTools creates static codes: the information is encoded directly into the pattern, so there is no redirect server that can be switched off. A static QR code printed today will scan the same way in ten years, and there are no scan limits.
Is the data I enter uploaded to a server?
No. Codes are generated by JavaScript running in your own browser. The URLs, WiFi passwords, contact details and product numbers you type are turned into an image on your device and are not sent to PureTools servers.
What is the difference between a QR code and a barcode?
A traditional barcode (EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 128) is one-dimensional: it stores a short number or string in the widths of vertical bars and is read by retail and warehouse scanners. A QR code is two-dimensional, stores far more data, and can be read by any smartphone camera, which makes it ideal for links, WiFi and contact details.
Should I download SVG or PNG?
Choose SVG for anything printed, such as packaging, labels, posters or signage. SVG is a vector format, so it stays perfectly sharp at any size. Choose PNG for websites, presentations, social media and documents where a ready-made image is easier to use. PDF export is also available for print-ready sheets.
Can I create hundreds of codes at once?
Yes. The Bulk Studio reads an Excel, CSV or Google Sheets list, generates a code for every row in your browser and lets you download them all as a ZIP of PNG or SVG files, together with a results spreadsheet and a printable PDF sheet.
