About PureTools
PureTools is a free collection of code generators for people who just need a QR code, barcode or 2D code that works, without creating an account, starting a trial or worrying that the code will stop working next month.
What we build
- QR code generators for websites, WiFi, contact cards, email, phone numbers and text, with full design control.
- 1D barcode generators for retail and logistics: EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 128, Code 39, ITF-14 and Codabar.
- 2D code generators for industry: Data Matrix, PDF417, Aztec, Micro QR and DotCode.
- A Bulk Studio that turns Excel, CSV or Google Sheets lists into hundreds of codes at once.
Our principles
Static and permanent. Every code we generate is static: the information is stored in the pattern itself. There is no redirect server in between, so codes keep working forever and have no scan limits.
Private by design. Codes are generated by JavaScript in your browser. The URLs, WiFi passwords, contact details and product numbers you enter are not uploaded to our servers. See our Privacy Policy for the details, including how advertising works on this site.
Standards first. Our generators follow the published symbology specifications (ISO/IEC 18004 for QR codes, ISO/IEC 16022 for Data Matrix, ISO/IEC 15438 for PDF417, GS1 rules for EAN/UPC) and we test output with common phone cameras and handheld scanners.
Free, supported by ads. Keeping the tools free means showing a small number of clearly labelled advertisements. We keep ads away from download buttons and never put features behind a paywall.
Editorial policy
Our guides are written and maintained by the PureTools team, and every barcode or 2D code page is checked against the published symbology specifications - ISO/IEC 18004 for QR codes, ISO/IEC 16022 for Data Matrix, ISO/IEC 15438 for PDF417 and the GS1 General Specifications for retail and logistics symbols - before it is updated. Where a page states a number (a module count, a capacity limit, a minimum X-dimension), that number comes from the specification or from a test we ran with our own generators.
Rules of thumb are labelled as rules of thumb. Printing and scanning advice that is common practice rather than normative is written so that readers can tell the difference, and each guide lists the sources it was checked against at the end of the article.
What we do not do. We do not publish marketing copy written as if it were documentation, we do not state that a format is "best" without saying which constraint it solves, and we do not update an article's date unless its content actually changed.
Corrections
If something on a guide is wrong, outdated or missing a source, tell us through the contact page and quote the section. Confirmed corrections are applied to the article, and the page's "last updated" date and sitemap timestamp move with the change so the history stays honest.
