How to use the Phone QR Code generator

  1. 1

    Enter the number

Type the full number with the plus sign and country code, for example +442079460000, so it works for callers anywhere.

  2. 2

    Customize the look

Choose colors and shapes that suit your vehicle wrap, sign or flyer. A phone icon logo makes the purpose obvious at a glance.

  3. 3

    Test the call

Scan the preview and confirm the dialer shows the correct number, then download SVG for print or PNG for digital use.

Features

  • Standard tel: link recognized by iPhone and Android
  • International format with country codes for any caller
  • No typos: the number is dialed exactly as encoded
  • Static code that works as long as the number does
  • High-contrast designs and SVG export for large signs

How tel: QR codes work

A phone QR code contains a tel: link, for example tel:+15550102000. It is the same format websites use for click-to-call buttons. When the camera reads it, the phone opens the dialer with the number filled in and waits for the person to press Call. Nothing is dialed automatically, so callers stay in control and never get surprised by an unexpected call.

Write the number in international format, starting with a plus sign and the country code, and drop the leading zero of the area code where your country uses one. A UK number 020 7946 0000 becomes +44 20 7946 0000. This format dials correctly from any country and from foreign SIM cards, which matters for tourists and business travelers.

Where a call me QR code pays off

  • Service vans and trucks: plumbers, electricians and movers get calls from people parked nearby
  • For-sale and for-rent signs, where people want to call while walking past
  • Takeaway menus and door hangers for phone orders
  • Lost-and-found tags on luggage, tools, equipment and pet collars
  • Help desk and emergency contact posters in workplaces

Size and placement for signs and vehicles

Phone codes are short, so the pattern is simple and scans from a long way off when printed big enough. A good rule is a code width of about one tenth of the scanning distance: a code scanned from 3 meters should be around 30 cm wide. On vehicles, place it at eye level near the rear doors where people stand, not up high where glare and angles make scanning hard.

Keep the code dark on a light background even if your branding is dark; a white panel behind it works well. Leave a clear margin around it and print the number in text too, since some people still prefer to dial by hand. Use the SVG export so the sign maker can scale it without blur.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a phone QR code call the number automatically?

No. It opens the phone dialer with the number filled in, and the person taps Call to connect. This is the standard behavior for tel: links on both iPhone and Android, and it prevents accidental calls while still saving the caller from typing a long number.

Should I include the country code?

Yes, if there is any chance someone outside your country will scan it, or someone using a foreign SIM card. International format, with a plus sign followed by the country code and the number, dials correctly from every network. It also works for local callers, so there is no downside.

Can a phone QR code send a text message instead?

This page creates tel: codes for calls. If you want people to write to you rather than call, an email QR code with a pre-filled subject works well, or you can use a URL code that links to a contact form or chat page on your website.

What happens if my number changes?

Because the code is static, it always dials the number encoded in it. If your number changes, generate a new code and replace the printed copies. To avoid reprinting in future, some businesses use a URL code that points to a contact page they can update themselves.

Can I share a phone number and other details in one code?

A tel: code holds one number. To share your number together with your name, email and company, use the vCard QR code generator instead. The phone will save the full contact, and the number can be called straight from the contact card.
